Websites--remember that every time you access a website from the Internet you must evaluate it to see if it is reliable and credible

• A-Author or Authority

  • Look at top of page, bottom of page, header for the author--can be a person or an organization
  • Can you find an author? CAUTION! Red flag if you can't
  • Does the author have credentials? What can you find about his/her education, experience, jobs?

• B--Bias

  • Is the purpose of the website to inform, persuade or entertain?
  • Is it objective in its coverage or can you find a bias?

• C--Current (dates, up-to-date)

  • Look at bottom of page, homepage, or updating of articles for dates
  • Is the information relevant and current for site's purpose?

• D--Documentation

  • Are there sources listed?

• D--Domain extensions--what comes after the dot)

  • .gov and .edu are most reliable
